Welcome to DW Studio

I help artists find their authentic sound and creative business mindset so they can develop sustainable careers. My specialty is enabling these artists to level up at key transition points:

Early Career individuals looking to pivot into new arts positions
– current and recent College Students emerging into the arts profession
High School Viola Players on the path to music/arts college majors
– advanced Middle School Violists readying for the challenge of high school music programs

I work with musicians in lessons, entrepreneurship and pedagogy courses, music festivals, studio classes, workshops, and clinics. I offer these experiences online and at the University of St. Thomas.

This work is inspired by my own career experiences as violist in the Houston Grand Opera & Ballet orchestras, starting four non-profit artistic ventures and developing my private and college viola studios. I passionately serve the mentor role with my students, just a my teachers did for me.

Holistic and Sustainable

I believe in mentoring the whole musician and incorporate elements of mindfulness, emotional intelligence, leadership, and organization intertwined with conservatory-minded musical training. These ‘extra-musical skills’ foster more sensitive and empathetic humans who are deeply connected to their craft and this purpose-driven approach is what makes sustainable music careers.

Students of the DW Studio have gone on to top conservatories and universities in the US and abroad including Juilliard, Cleveland Institute, Oberlin, Manhattan School, Royal College of Music (London), McGill (Montreal), Baylor, University of Oregon, and MIT. They have earned viola positions at major music festivals including Aspen, Tanglewood, Heifetz, Bowdoin, Sewanee, Domaine Forget and numerous seats in local Region, State and National competitions, and orchestra auditions.

DW Studio embraces musicians of all colors, religions, sexualities, gender identity/expressions, and ages. We celebrate each other’s differences and actively develop empathy to understand one another. Core values:
